Objective:  As the Caribbean is a region of many contrasts, it can be expected that the workshop attendees will engage in an interesting discussion and identify some of the best practices from the countries or companies they represent.  The moderator will provide regional and global context in addition to facilitating the discussion.

 

The objective of the second part of the workshop will be to encourage exchange of opinions related to the following two topics:

 

1. Key drivers of 3G adoption in the Caribbean

2. Mobile data service adoption in the Caribbean

 

 

Led by: Stela Bokun, Analyst, Pyramid Research

Stela is author and co-Author of two extensive Pyramid Research studies: Mobile Markets in the Caribbean, and Social Networking Goes Mobile. In addition, Pyramid Research has published a variety Stela’s expert opinions (Pyramid Research Perspectives) on a wide array of topics including: WiMAX in Latin America, Digicel’s expansion in Central America, Mobile TV in Latin America, competitive positioning of Tigo and Claro in Central America, etc.  Stela is also in charge of maintaining fixed-line and mobile forecast models for Central American and Caribbean markets and managing four Pyramid Research client accounts.

Deploying Innovative Services:

The Business Case for WiMax and IPTV

 

The deployment of new disruptive technologies will allow service providers the delivery of innovative services and guarantee new sources of revenue beyond usual data and voice services.  One of the most pressing questions that service providers have is about the investment requested to offer those kind of services and the main question is how to meet and/or exceed business expectations.

 

Part I

The Business Case for Wimax

Objective:  This presentation is addressed to executives that require a broader understanding regarding the business aspects of applications, services and operations involving Wimax.  This workshop will focus on each area involved in the implementation of a successful Wimax business model, including the commercial, financial and technological aspects.

 

Topics to be addressed:

  • How to choose the adequate business model:  market assessment and launching strategy
  • Spectrum and license policies
  • Evaluating the challenges concerning fixed and mobile network business
  • Building a strategy regarding fixed or mobile network
  • Planning the Wimax technology implementation:  structuring the assessment of investment and return on investment (ROI)
  • Network’s technical aspects and commercial challenges

 

Part II

The Business Case for IPTV

 

Agenda: 15h30 – 17h Close

 

Objective:  This presentation will address the IPTV development and the opportunities for all service providers and will provide analysis of the key points concerning IPTV deployment and checking the potential impact on business.

 

Topics to be addressed:

  • Will IPTV generate income or will it represent a competitive differential?
  • Definition of the business models
  • Identifying consumer segments in the beginning of the IPTV, VoD launching
  • Choosing the content to be adopted by the IPTV content providers
  • The importance of content to make the triple play offer viable
  • Offers already implemented in the market
  • Experiences and models in IPTV

 

Led by:  Michael Kende, Partner, Analysys Mason

Michael is an economist by training, with a Ph.D. from MIT.  After MIT, he spent five years as a professor of Economics at INSEAD, a business school near Paris, before joining the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC).  At Analysis Mason, Michael has worked with operators and regulators in six continents, providing advice on a variety of Internet issues.   He has worked on projects relating to Internet backbone interconnection, spectrum assignments, broadband deployment, Voice over IP and IPTV.
